We understand you may have questions about CLARITY Direct Neurofeedback™ therapy. Here are answers to some of the most common inquiries to help you on your journey to better brain health.
Anyone with a clinical license can purchase a system of CLARITY Direct Neurofeedback™. This includes physicians, therapists, nurses, acupuncturists, chiropractors and others. Technicians without a clinical license can administer sessions with clients, but they must be working under someone with a clinical license. The licensed clinician does not have to be in the room.
A senior practitioner is available by email or phone. Special support is given to new practitioners. An on-line discussion where various questions and topics are addressed. A regular monthly blog, either written or by video. Educational webinars. All Clarity marketing materials (brochures, business cards, etc.) will be available to certified practitioners.
A typical session is a half hour. It can be either integrated into a standard therapeutic session or stand-alone. You have the opportunity of working with new client populations, such as ADD/ADHD and autism, which up until now may not have been part of your clinical practice.
Being on any drug, prescription or illicit, does not interfere with progress. Patients tend to improve regardless of the drug or medication they may be taking. It is possible to lessen or void the use of some medications due to the Clarity direct neurofeedback protocol.
Standard side effects are tired, “wired” (usually giddy, sometimes anxious), spacey, headache, and rarely, nausea. These usually last for just a few minutes; occasionally a few hours; and rarely a day or so. These side effects are temporary 100% of the time. The clinician lowers the “dose” on the next session and side effects are either gone or greatly diminished. Side effects are very rarely a significant issue during the course of a patient’s sessions.
Register for and complete the CLARITY Direct Neurofeedback™ therapy online training course. Complete 10 hours of virtual supervision. Pass a written exam. Pass a practice session exam with a Senior Neurofeedback Practitioner. After passing all exams, you will be awarded a “Certificate of Completion”. This indicates you have been trained in the fundamentals of CLARITY and are certified to administer sessions using the technology.
The pre-qualifications to start offering CLARITY Direct Neurofeedback™ therapy are a license in your profession, your professional “people skills”, and the ability to think like a clinician in your particular field. A pre-existing medical degree or training in neuroscience is not required. It can be helpful to have some understanding of the nervous system, though this knowledge is covered as you train in CLARITY.
Insurance carriers consider both CLARITY Direct Neurofeedback™ and traditional neurofeedback a form of biofeedback. Coverage varies state-by-state and carrier-by-carrier. Efforts are underway to make sure neurofeedback has better coverage in the future.
A typical session lasts half an hour. After taking a follow up history of events since the last session, the clinician cleans skin on the scalp. Small sensors are applied. The CLARITY Direct Neurofeedback™ software works with an EEG amplifier to send an ultra-low signal to the outer tissues of the brain, allowing the brain to adjust itself with no conscious effort on the patient’s part. The ability for the patient to remain passive increases compliance across ages. CLARITY can cause a positive response in one to three sessions, and requires a limited number of sessions to complete the protocol. CDN cannot take away the challenges of life, but can build resiliency and create a better functioning brain.
You will be awarded a “Certificate of Completion”. This indicates you have been trained in the fundamentals of CLARITY Direct Neurofeedback™ therapy and are certified to administer sessions using the technology. This certification is not officially “recognized” by any licensing body or official organization. It is on your wall to give assurance to patients you have proper training to use the CLARITY system. The relevant certificate in the neurofeedback field is from the BCIA (Biofeedback Certification International Alliance). BCIA training has several courses of didactic study and then formal testing. It is a voluntary certification and not required to become certified in CLARITY.
